Job Summary
The Electronic Resources Specialist oversees the library’s electronic resource renewals and ensures ongoing patron access. This position plays a crucial role in fulfilling the library’s strategic directive to provide convenient access to high quality information by diagnosing and fixing problems as they arise. The electronic access overseen by this position benefits the research and learning of students and faculty in all campus disciplines. The 500+ active database subscriptions handled by this position contain over a million journals, ebooks, and multimedia items.
Essential Functions
- Electronic Resources Access and Reporting
- Maintain links to electronic materials in the OpenURL Resolver, library catalog, and the database pages on the library website.
- Maintain the library’s Electronic Resource Management System (ConsortiaManager) with all purchasing information for databases, ebook packages, and journal packages acquired at the Harold B. Lee Library.
- Maintain separate cost and usage reports for all subject librarians.
- Organize and maintain department electronic and print files related to library databases and other electronic resources.
- Collect data for reports. Draft reports and documents as assigned.
- Electronic Resource Renewals
- Communicate professionally with vendors in asking for renewal details and challenging price increases that are above the library’s defined threshold.
- Communicate closely with subject librarians in outlining renewal terms and recommendations based on historical cost per use.
- Process, reconcile, and record payments for library database renewals, ensuring accuracy in amounts and fund codes.
- Troubleshooting and Training
- Triage patron access problems and determine the cause of the problem which can often be complex and multi-layered.
- Correct locally caused issues and communicate with vendors until they correct issues on their end.
- Provide excellent customer service in communicating problem resolution to library patrons.
- Maintain personal competency on library databases; attend training meetings for databases and software.
- Provide training on the use of library databases and collection assessment tools to other library departments as needed.
- Professional Development
- Participate in department, library, and university trainings.
- Attend relevant conferences and workshops as funding is available.
- Participate in other position related professional development activities such as professional reading, publications, and presentations.
Education/Experience
Minimum education/experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2 years library experience
