Monograph Acquisitions Specialist 1

Job Summary

The Library Acquisitions Specialist for Monographs is responsible for ordering, processing, and payments for monographic material entering the library, approximately 25,000 items annually. This includes books, videos, audio recordings, scores, maps, and others in both print and electronic formats.

Essential Functions

Ordering

  • Perform bibliographic searching to ensure that duplicate materials are not unintentionally added.
  • Import or create bibliographic record to match item details.
  • Place orders that require independent judgement to determine appropriate vendor out of a few established options.
  • Create the order record in the library catalog, correctly entering the order type, fund code, location, vendor, and material format information.

Processing

  • Verify accuracy in item and order details when processing material entering the library and correct if needed.
  • Correct errors in catalog record if the received item does not exactly match the previously created bibliographic record.
  • Evaluate any material that arrives damaged or in a condition that is not as described.
  • Resolve most process issues within the department's control. Work with other areas in the library to resolve process problems relating to assigned responsibilities.

Payments

  • Create and reconcile expense reports, verifying accuracy in all order and financial details.
  • Create system invoices and verify that all information matches vendor invoice.
  • Resolve invoice and order discrepancies.

Mentoring and Supervising

  • Provides leadership and training to student employees.
  • Leads project teams of staff and students where the impact will be felt throughout the library.
  • Provides detailed feedback regarding student performance when working with this individual on relevant

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience required:

  • 4 years general library experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree + 2 years library acquisitions experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills Required:

  • Computer Skills (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) and OCLC database

Approximate Starting Salary: $35,500 - $45,000, depending on qualifications
